ah the good life!
in other, more tragic news, the veggie garden has been discovered by deer.
they've struck twice.
so far they favor the extremely tasty, tender, buttery red veined spinach aka bordeaux spinach,
which you can't find in stores. i learned about this one from the organic farm, thanks Harriet!
fortunately, it was pretty much done for the season.
they also have a fondness for red and gold beet greens, and swiss chard.
those pesky deer.
i could try placing some netting down. i heard also that spreading human hair
around the beds can help ward them of. sounds a bit gross, but hey if it works, it works.
so, feel free to mail me some locks. ha! sick. please don't.
know of any other tricks for warding off deer?

I've heard of people peeing around the edges. But if you're disturbed by hair (or worried about the neighbors), you could pick up coyote urine at Cabela's.
My grandma used to grate Ivory soap around the plants that they would chew on. She also put a salt lick in the ditch across the road, so they'd go there instead. Do you have a place to redirect them?
Ask the cannoneers if they're interested in "alternative" target practice.
bullets!
Deer are a problem around here as well. My sister uses blood meal to keep rabbits away from her garden, and I'm sure the same principle would work for deer. In Canada at least, you can buy boxes of it at hardware or garden stores, and then just pour it around the edges of the garden.
I have some locks for you!
